‘Self’ Daily Tips:

Tip #39: Choose Freedom

July 22nd, 2009

Perseverance and courage help you overcome obstacles as you meet them. Face these stumbling blocks, even when you have to say, “I’ll try again tomorrow.” Remember that you have the freedom to make mistakes. It’s okay to start over or take a few steps backwards.

If you’re not choosing freedom, you’re choosing fear. Your natural state is one of happiness, health, and abundance. If you are living without these, you are likely sacrificing your quality of life. Is a fear-driven life worth this sacrifice?

Now, choose to free yourself of old habits of thinking that no longer serve you. Write down something that you feel is beyond reach due to fear, a fear of failure, a fear of imperfect. Then, decide that you choose freedom. Free yourself of this fear and take one step towards that “something” you wrote down. Begin moving forward now!

Tip #36: Be a Life Student

July 17th, 2009

I strongly believe that knowledge is power. Learning never ends. “Life learning” happens outside the classroom. It’s the attempt to digest new information about our life, the lives around us, and the society in which we live. Knowledge is learned by living life each day with mindful awareness.

Now, take a moment to reflect on the thoughts running through your mind. It’s often hard to learn or think deeply about life in the moment due to our inner chit chat. So acknowledge these thoughts, but then take a deep breathe and acknowledge an inner sense of calm. Then, begin to explore your questions. Practice embracing new knowledge and greater awareness.

Tip #33: Live for Today

July 14th, 2009

Do you find that you reassure yourself constantly that you WILL be happy, just as soon as something else happens? Are you waiting for something MORE? Perhaps you’re living your life in the hope that something bigger and better will come along – and only then will your joy be complete.

Be happy with all that you have been afforded for today and the blessings that may come tomorrow will be an unexpected joy.

Tip #32: Trust Your Intuition

July 13th, 2009

We are often told to trust our intuition, but like much advice it’s much easier said than done. What our gut tells us is often not the same message that we obtain from reasoning. We can’t control our gut feelings and often that’s what makes them so important.

Now, try making a decision with your intuition rather than following your conscious thoughts. For example, today, when you choose what to eat, do it with your intuition. Instead of choosing what is healthiest, or what you assume is your favorite dish, try attending to your gut feeling. Maybe it’s some sort of undefined creaminess you want, something hearty, or something refreshing. Don’t logic your way through the choice, just listen to what you really want.

Tip #31: Nourish Your Inner Child

July 10th, 2009

Do you remember the wonder, the awe, and the amazement you experienced as a child at life’s simplest pleasures? As we “grow up” we tend to stop seeing the wonder in the little things. We rush about with the end goal in mind with great purpose and good intent; but we fail to actually live.

Now, do something today to nurture your inner child. That may mean playing outdoors or eating an ice cream sundae. Don’t let the simple pleasures pass by unnoticed. Allow them to put even the tiniest smile on your face. Show your appreciation in the most subtle way. A butterfly resting on a beautiful flower; floating leaves; ants at a picnic, cleaning up; beach sand; airplanes flying overhead. It matters not what you find that brings you pleasure. It can be anything from the wonderment of nature to the thrill of our modern world’s technology. All these are gifts that, somehow, bring something good into our lives. Enjoy them with that same childlike awe!
